Steampunk Sisters by Yume-Inc Steampunk Sisters by Yume-Inc
Edit: Almost forgot, my friend Taiku suggested random objects that inspired the doll. c: I was bored and got her to list random things and here's the result! xD;

Obviously, [sort of xD;] these dolls aren't exactly finished. As you can tell, they still need a background. But we all know how lazy I am and never have backgrounds, ['Cause I'm cool like that xD;;] These two WERE supposed to have one but I never got around to making it. I had an idea but now I'm not really sure what to do for one. o.o;; What I was thinking of doing wasn't a big, super detailed one, but one with a few items like a desk, book shelf, and a grandfather clock behind them to add a bit more of a finished look to it. Though, now I don't know if I should do something else. o: Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. xD;;

Anyways, I made them back in July so they're fairly recent, but I just got lazy with uploading them. xD; I was going to wait till I had a background but it didn't end up happening. Oh well. xD;; I'm very happy with how they've turned out, though! 8D I don't know what I love the most. xD; The only thing I don't like is that the one with the mechanical arm thinger has her hair covering it, and I didn't want to have to do her hair again. xD; I might just have to make her another outfit and show it off. >:3

The biggest problem I probably ran into was the more aristocratic looking one's skirt. xD;; Not the ruffly bit at the bottom, but the other part. It took forever to get the shading to look right. @__@
I also ran into trouble when I was shading the bases! D: Since they came blank, I had to color and shade them, which is fine for me when I'm doing Caucasian skin tones, but when you try to do something else? Absolutely brutal. e___e;; I had to go back and 'checker pattern' it a bit so it blended way better as a darker skin tone. So having to do that was very time-costly. ... Then again, both these dolls took quite a while to finish! But, it was all worth it~

Oh! Also, I was thinking of adding a rolled up map in the red sister's hand, and a bit more jewelery along with a book in the other girl's hand. o: I might go through with it, mostly because I don't know what else to add. xD; If you've got an idea as to what they could be holding, again, I'd love to hear it. x3;;

No problem. You show a lot of spunk and creativity in your work. And I love that every piece has a backstory. I could see you becoming super popular before long. You may want to try softer pallets with less contrast. And on darker skintones, the key is making sure they aren't too grey/green or too red. If you happen to be using MSPaint, you can change color's easily by setting the color you want to get rid of to the forecolor and the one you want to add as the rearcolor, using the eraser tool you right click over the color you want to get rid of, at it's replaced.

If you're using Photoshop, I might suggest using different layers for different things one for the base+skin, two for face, over that hair, over that clothes, over that any boots or what not you may have.
Then, as you're trying to get your pallets adjusted you can try image/adjustment/hue and saturation or brightness and contrast.

Those are my little cheaters tips and tricks.

These are so cool! I love that the sisters' contrasting personalites are made apparent through their clothing (one so elegant and the other sporty) but you still managed to keep them looking like a pair. Beautiful color choices and clothing designs! :)

I love seeing how my bases are used and it's even more fun when the dolls turn out this well! :heart:
